Save energy, win beer [part 2]
Students compete to cut energy use in halls of residence
Following on from last year’s successful energy competition amongst University of Bath student residences (see here) we can bring you the winners for 2008: Marlborough Court (on-campus) and John Wood Court KF (off-campus).
These two halls of residence reduced their energy consumption by the highest percentage and win a Celebratory Meal & Drinks (aka ‘beer & curry’). A tree will also be planted close to both buildings to mark the achievement.
Overall, the combined efforts of all the students led to reductions of 310,000 kWh (170 tonnes of CO2) which represents a cash saving for the university of £23,000 - money that will be used to fund other ‘green’ initiatives, as well as helping keep rents down.
