Energy champions gather to hear the good news

Less than two years into the project, and Our Big Energy Challenge is bringing home energy savings that will cut fuel bills by hundreds of thousands of pounds a year.

This was the good news presented to over 150 senior staff and energy champions from organisations participating in the project who gathered in Bath’s sumptious Banqueting Hall in February.

Over a tasty lunch, participants were able to share experiences of Our Big Energy Challenge, what works in their organisation and how energy awareness can be raised.

The event featured a stunning ‘energy efficiency cat-walk’ featuring appliances from computers to toy race-tracks and lava lamps to fans, complete with energy saving tips and suggestions.

Switch off desk lights when they are not in use

Switch off lights when they’re not in use. Individual desk lamps are likely to be energy savers if they are used instead of overhead lighting, but they should still be turned off when you leave your desk – even if only for a few minutes. Lights also give off heat, and in summer the combined output of several desk lamps and computers can make a room feel uncomfortably warm.
